Blue Sky Vision is dedicated to providing world-class support to leading providers of eye care services. Blue Sky Vision was created in early 2017 and is a partnership among doctors, members of the leadership team, and Sterling Partners. Our Purpose is to Lead the Way, Improve Sight, and Change Lives; our Vision is to be the model for unsurpassed patient experience, inspiring and empowering our team through innovation, dedication to excellence, and the creation of opportunity through growth. To date, Blue Sky Vision partners include: Optometrists of Lansing, VisionCare Associates; EyeCare Associates, Sussex Vision Centers; Vitreo-Retinal Associates; Michigan Optical; Shoreline Vision; Walker Surgical Center; Lakeshore Eye; Surgical Care Center of Michigan; and Grand Rapids Ophthalmology.
Dan Shoemaker has more than 20 years of experience in private equity-backed companies. Most recently, Dan served as Chief Financial Officer at Golden State Dermatology. Prior this, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at NuLink, a broadband telecommunications company based in Atlanta, Georgia. Dan led NuLink’s expansion for six years until the company was sold in 2016.
Previously, he served as Chief Financial Officer at James Cable, LLC for nearly 15 years during which he also held the positions of Treasurer and Chief Accounting Officer. Dan earned his BS in Physics, and minors in Mathematics and Computer Science, from Alma College.
Melissa Dabrowski has over a decade of experience in numerous business areas, including: human resources, strategic planning, information technology, forecasting, and financing. Most recently, she was Executive Partner with Behringer & Co. based in Caledonia, Michigan where she was the lead consultant on Career Exploration client engagements. Prior to this, Melissa led the global succession planning and talent acquisition process for Federal-Mogul, Motorparts in Southfield, Michigan. Melissa also served as Global Manager for Dow Corning where she managed talent development and organization development for the company. Melissa received her MS in Administration from Central Michigan University and is a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University.
Jenny Fanning has extensive experience offering consulting services within the healthcare industry, specializing in the areas of NextGen-implementation process and technology optimization. Locally, Jenny worked at Spectrum Health and West Michigan Heart where she was the Director of Information Technology. Jenny also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Computer Products and Resources. She is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a NextGen-Certified Professional. Jenny received her MBA from Boston University and BS from Northwestern University.
Colleen Mulder has over 35 years of experience in ophthalmology, serving as Marketing Director for Grand Rapids Ophthalmology since 1994 and Facility and Construction Management since 1991, facilitating the de novo growth of 8 locations and 2 ambulatory surgery centers. Previous roles with the company include Director of Diagnostic Services and Clinical Operations Director. Colleen has played key roles in the development of: Continuous Quality Improvement, Skin Solutions by Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, and Clinical Training Programs; as well as management of LASIK, Call Center, and Capital Equipment purchasing. Colleen has had the privilege of teaching both nationally and internationally for Joint Commission on Allied Health in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) and Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society (OPS). Colleen received her BBA in Marketing from Davenport University and has a degree in Ophthalmic Technology from Ferris State University. She was an Advisory Board Member for Michigan College of Optometry and on the Board of Directors for OPS. Colleen currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Grand Rapids Lions’ Club.
Shane Rodgers has more than 15 years of accounting and financial management leadership experience. Most recently, Shane served as Senior Group Controller at Patrick, Industries where he was actively involved in acquisitions and had financial responsibility for a significant number of Patrick’s brands.
Previously, Mr. Rodgers served as Chief Financial Officer for Poly-Wood, LLC; he also served Zimmer Biomet where he had a number of progressing, finance-leadership roles. Mr. Rodgers earned both his Master of Science in Accounting and Bachelor in Business Administration from Western Michigan University.
